The International Management Trainee
IMT is Jerónimo Martins Trainee Programme dedicated to Corporate domains. Over the course of 24 months, it offers young graduates the possibility of an accelerated specialist career path with an international focus on the Group’s core areas (Operations, Logistics and Commercial).
Whether dealing with ambitious negotiations or enhancing performance on world-leading retail concepts, this programme will take you to the peak of your abilities. From A to Retail, you’ll be part of an exclusive league of people with in-depth knowledge and practical experience in the retail business with an international outlook.

IMT has been designed to push the boundaries of possible. You’ll start off your career after acquiring deep knowledge on our core areas – Operations, Logistics and Commercial – throughout your 24 months’ experience. Until you reach your landing position, your progression is going to be fully accompanied by the IMT development team and by key mentors and colleagues.
Corporate & Retail Training
IM Trainees are welcomed by the Corporate HR team and are introduced to the basic principles of Retail. They spend the first month of the Programme understanding the Group’s headquarters and main corporate areas, building esprit de corps and long-lasting relations. It’s an immersive experience that involves workshops, meetings, training sessions and action learning activities, focused on deepening knowledge about our food-passionate people, ethics, behaviours, business strategy and can-do attitude.
Know the business
This month is dedicated to a countrywide immersion in our Biedronka and Hebe Stores, Logistics and support structures such as Commercial, Marketing, Private Label Development, HR and Finance.
5 TO 7 MONTHS
Rotation 1: Stores
During this period, IM Trainees get a hands-on experience in our Stores. IM Trainees from Poland and Portugal go through this experience in their home countries, while Trainees from Colombia can go through the same experience in either Poland or Portugal, and learn from consolidated formats.

Rotation 2: Logistics
IM Trainees undergo practical training in our Logistics and Supply Chain departments, seeing first hand the impact that our Distribution Centres and Transportation operations have on the value chain efficiency.
5 TO 7 MONTHS
Rotation 3: Commercial / Marketing / Private label
IM Trainees get to know how we do things in terms of category management and suppliers relations in the Commercial department. Also, they learn about our Marketing processes, which help us build a strong relationship with our customers. Finally, IM Trainees learn how our Private Label Development department, a strategic differentiation pillar for us, works from the inside.
Know the business
The last month of the programme is dedicated to a countrywide immersion in our most recent market, Colombia, and its local banner Ara. After getting to know in depth our mature markets, IM Trainees see how we deploy our consolidated business knowledge in this market.
Upon conclusion of the Programme, IM Trainees are assigned to their first landing position, typically in corporate or support areas, for at least 3 years.

Upon conclusion (24 months), international management trainees are appointed their landing positions. They are expected to remain in their roles for at least 3 years. The possibilities are endless and we’ll support any career plans that play to your strengths and make business sense.
You might be ready to back-up a District Manager and drive returns by meeting sales and profit targets, and motivating store managers to excel in performance and customer service. Plan, launch and execute store-related business processes across brands and channels. Perhaps you can conduct multiple stores or stores in multiple locations and have a close working relationship with other retail backend functions. Your job might be to develop new store operations policies, systems, and instruments which will be used in all markets. You can also be ready to deliver sustainable and profitable retail market share growth and build brand equity in your market driving a culture of retail operations excellence and generate performance targets for the businesses.

Each geography receives thousands of applications from super talented graduate students from all fields of study. A relevant Master’s Degree (Pregrado in Colombia) from a renowned university, in any field of expertise ranging from Business, Science, Technology, Engineering to Arts and Humanities. The best-in-class track-record.
We seek people that were active while studying, through internship programmes, voluntary work or engagement in various organisations. The candidates must not have more than 2 years of professional experience following their graduation.
All candidates have built their intercultural competence through an international student exchange (e.g. Erasmus) or work-and-travel experience outside their home country.
Command of English C1 (European scale)
Being an international Group, we expect our candidates to be able to use English at an advanced level. The minimum requirement is C1 (European scale). Several phases of the recruitment process are conducted in English. For non-Colombians, knowledge of Spanish is a plus.
Considering the geographically dispersed structure of our business, the candidates are expected to be mobile country-wide and among countries to meet their development challenges during the programme as well as upon its completion.
Availability to enrol in a 2‑year programme
Our full-time programme is available to graduates with a Master’s Degree (Pregrado in Colombia) completed or nearing completion. Candidates must be available to enrol in a 2-year programme.

Applications and Selection Process
The selection process to IMT is a 5-stage selection process.
It’s going to be a leaning trek, but we’ll be here to lead you all the way through.
Applications start in January 2018 and close in March 2018. These are the stages you’ll have to get successfully through to be chosen to enrol IMT.
All candidates are expected to submit their applications online providing qualitative information about their educational background, work experiences and other relevant data, as well as answering some additional questions.
The selected candidates are invited to a business challenge, and they have the first contact with the reality of Jerónimo Martins. They also have the opportunity of meeting selected business managers.
Selected candidates are asked to participate in an assessment session where they go through a series of exercises, both individual and in a group.
The best candidates are invited to meetings with a Selecting Committee, comprised by top executives from Jerónimo Martins, and are assessed through self-presentations, group exercises and individual interviews.
Following the panel, the selected candidates are offered a place in our IMT, which starts in September 2018.
